The Golden State Warriors’ season came to an end last night with a 118-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings in the Play-In Tournament.
The defeat brought into focus questions about the future of the Warriors and star guard Stephen Curry. Klay Thompson, Curry’s No. 1 running mate for the last decade, is heading into free agency and could opt to leave the only franchise he’s ever played for.
Curry said following the loss he can’t imagine playing without Thompson and Draymond Green, but made it clear his top priority is to win, whatever the circumstances are.
“Obviously, we understand the league has changed and we’re getting deeper into our careers and we have to evolve and make the necessary adjustments to win games,” Curry said, via Jason Dumas. “But we put a lot of time into it. I think I worked harder than I ever have at being able to prepare for a season and try to perform at the level that I expect.
“Those two guys have been through it with me. At the end of the day, I just want to win and I know that’s totally possible. I know this summer’s going to be a lot of conversations and trying to set ourselves up to win. Whatever that means, I hope that’s the outcome.”

Curry scored 22 points in Golden State’s season-ending loss Tuesday. The 36-year-old played in 74 out of 82 regular season games and averaged 26.4 points per outing, so it’s obvious he still has something left in the tank.
While the Warriors go about rebuilding their roster during this summer, Curry will play for Team USA for the first time ever in the Olympics.
