Steph Curry featured on the cover of Golf Digest

A fitting poster boy.

You can bet that Steph Curry’s focus this summer lies primarily on getting the Golden State Warriors back to the top of the NBA’s mountain, and winning gold at the Olympics. Well, on that, and also his family, including the newest member, Caius Chai.

But when Curry isn’t in the gym, it’s not hard to guess where he’ll be: golfing. Long an avid, passionate, and exceptionally talented golfer, Curry has been trying to make it a bigger part of his legacy. And it’s through that pursuit that the two-time MVP found himself as the most recent cover model for Golf Digest magazine.

Stephen Curry wants to make golf blacker and browner, and raise his own game, too.

The profile of Curry, written by Max Adler, features a lot of fascinating information about the sharpshooter’s golf game and his business enterprise Underrated Golf, a self-started and funded junior tour aimed at increasing accessibility to, and diversity in golf.

There are some amazing tidbits in the article, such as the reveal from a biomechanical analysis system that Curry’s swing is stunningly similar to a professional golfer’s. We also learn that three-time Major champion Jordan Spieth only spots Curry six strokes when they play, and that Curry hopes to one day compete in the PGA Tour Champions, the branch of the PGA Tour specifically for players over the age of 50.

But most important is the info that Curry offers up on the fast-growing Underrated Tour, which is now profitable. The four-time champion is creating legitimate change in a sport that has long overlooked most people who look like him, and it’s great to see that celebrated.

We’ll have to wait a few months to see Curry on the hardwood again, but you can spot him on the grass next month, when he’ll be at the US Open, accepting the Charlie Sifford Award for advancing diversity in golf.
