The Chef has broken another of Mr. Shuttlesworth’s prestigious records.

In a narrative that once seemed improbable, Stephen Curry has surpassed Ray Allen in total career points, cementing his legacy as one of the NBA’s all-time greats. As of January 31, 2025, Curry has amassed 24,515 points, edging past Allen’s 24,505.

When Curry entered the league as the 7th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, skepticism loomed large. His slender frame and a history of ankle injuries led many to question his durability and potential impact. In contrast, Ray Allen was already an established star, renowned for his sharpshooting and consistency. The thought of Curry eclipsing Allen’s scoring achievements seemed far-fetched.

Stephen Curry’s response when asked what it means to surpass Ray Allen for 27th on all-time scoring list:

“You see the gray hair? That just means you’re blessed to keep playing this game at a high level. I thank God every day that this is a space I’ve been able to live in for… pic.twitter.com/bkFVU0ZXup

Curry’s ascent as a scorer is a testament to his versatility and evolution. Curry expanded the role of a scoring point guard. He not only shattered three-point records but also developed a formidable inside game, utilizing floaters, layups, and mid-range shots. This diverse offensive arsenal allowed him to consistently average over 25 points per game in multiple seasons.

Allen’s smooth shooting stroke set a standard in the NBA. However, Curry took shooting to uncharted territories. His quick release, unlimited range, and ability to shoot off the dribble transformed the game. Defenses were forced to adapt to his style, often unsuccessfully. Curry’s influence is evident in the current NBA landscape, where the three-point shot has become a central strategy.

Early in his career, Curry’s recurring ankle injuries cast doubt on his longevity. Through rigorous training and adjustments, he strengthened his lower body and altered his playstyle to mitigate injury risks. This resilience not only prolonged his career but also allowed him to maintain peak performance levels well into his 30s.

Surpassing Allen in total points is more than a statistical achievement for Curry; it’s a narrative of overcoming adversity and redefining the game. Once considered an injury-prone player with limited potential, Curry is now a four-time NBA champion, two-time MVP, and the league’s all-time leader in three-pointers made.

In conclusion, Curry’s journey from a doubtful prospect to surpassing a legend like Ray Allen underscores his exceptional talent, determination, and transformative impact on basketball. What was once unfathomable is now a celebrated reality, inspiring future generations of players.
