Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has never been fond of former United States president Donald Trump. That being said, he was obviously concerned about his well-being after last Saturday’s shooting.
With the Olympics less than two weeks away, Kerr commented on the senseless act of violence that took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Kerr called it a “demoralizing day” for Americans. He also talked about how it’s important for Team USA to properly represent the country at the Games in Paris.
“This is a time where we feel very proud to represent our country wearing USA on our chest, competing in the Olympics,” Kerr told reporters, via Awful Announcing. “We’ve talked to the players about how important it is to show the best version of us as human beings to represent our country in a respectful, dignified manner. It makes you want to do that even more so, because this is really shameful for us to sit here and think about what happened and what’s going on in our country.
“It’s such a demoralizing day for our country, and it’s yet another example of not only our political division but also gun culture. A 20-year-old with an AR-15 trying to shoot the former president. It’s hard to process everything, and it’s scary to think about where this goes because of the issues that already exist in the country. So this is a terrible day.”
Earlier this year, Kerr made headlines for referring to Joe Biden as the “very simple choice” for the upcoming election.
“I mean, it’s clear that President Biden is really interested in implementing gun safety measures, common sense, gun violence prevention measures. I’ve been doing a lot of work the last 10 years with a lot of different gun safety prevention. People like Brady Giffords, Sandy Hook, promise march for our lives. I’ve learned so much. And I know that we can prevent lives,” Kerr said. “President Biden is adamant that he’s going to push for common sense laws that can do that. I know that President Trump will not do that. And so it was really a very simple choice for him.”
We can’t imagine Kerr’s political view has changed overnight. He may have some sympathy for Trump though.
