Several members of Team USA underwent a drug test following their gold medal game win against France at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The United States men’s national basketball team captured their fifth consecutive gold medal and 17th overall in the Summer Games. They defeated hosts France in the gold medal game, 98-87, at the Accor Arena in Paris.
Team USA Stars Get Drug Test After Insane Olympic Performances
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards made an appearance with Team USA teammate and Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant at the Fanatics Fest event last Saturday, August 17, at the Javits Center in New York City. The 23-year-old then shared a story onstage with event host and former NBA player Jalen Rose about him, Durant and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry undergoing a drug test following their gold medal victory.
“After the gold medal [game], not gonna lie, me and him [Kevin Durant] had a drug test. We couldn’t even really celebrate in the locker room, for real, because me, him [Kevin Durant] and Steph [Curry] had to take like a drug test or something.”
Rose later quipped that Curry deserved to undergo a drug test after his incredible closeout performance in the gold medal decider. The 36-year-old nailed four clutch three-pointers in the final three minutes. That turned a one-possession game into a comfortable double-digit win.
Edwards also shared that Curry was supposed to get a drug test after their semifinal game against Serbia, where he had a breakout game after struggling for much of the Olympics. The NBA’s only unanimous MVP dropped 36 points during that contest. That is the second-highest single-scoring game in Team USA’s Olympic history.
Durant had already become Team USA men’s basketball all-time leading Olympic scorer during the 2020 edition in Tokyo (held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). During the Paris Olympics, the 2014 NBA Most Valuable Player also became Team USA all-time leading rebounder. He surpassed future Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony in both categories en route to his fourth Olympic gold medal. Meanwhile, Edwards is expected to take on a leadership role for the next Summer Games iteration of Team USA. The 2028 Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, California.

Edwards has previously expressed several times that his all-time favorite player is Durant. The former first overall pick appears to be living out his dream after the Timberwolves swept the Suns in the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs, with Edwards making several highlight plays over the two-time NBA Finals MVP. Coming into the summer, Edwards frequently spent time with Durant during Team USA’s run in the Paris Olympics, and their camaraderie continued into their joint appearance at the Fanatics Fest event.
Durant has given Edwards the nickname “Baby GOAT,” which is fitting for his immense potential to become a bonafide superstar in the league. The two-time NBA All-Star expressed joy in spending time with his favorite player.
“It’s been dope, man. You know, I had a great experience, especially being alongside him. I was on his hip the entire trip.”
