Kate Martin has been excellent off the bench in the most exciting new league in sports.

The Golden State Valkyries still have not made any superstar acquisitions. However, the most well-known player currently on the roster is having an impressive showing in the WNBA offseason’s hottest new league, Unrivaled. Valkyries guard Kate Martin, who was selected away from the Las Vegas Aces in the team’s expansion draft, is putting some highlights together with the Laces.

Martin, who built a significant fanbase as the second-best player for multiple seasons at Iowa next to Caitlin Clark, has been a significant bench contributor for the Laces. In the 3-on-3 league, Martin has scored double-digit points in two of the Laces three games, which they have all won. On Friday, Martin had some particularly impressive highlights.

In just 11 minutes of action during the Laces 83-79 victory over the Vinyl, Martin recorded 11 points on 5-for-11 shooting (1-for-5 from three) with 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. She had a couple signature highlights, an impressive pass on her lone assist and some crafty finishes inside the arc against defenders with significant size advantages on the guard.

This was the second time Martin has put up a solid box score line off the bench for the Laces. In the team’s debut last week, Martin managed a double-double, posting 12 points (5-for-10 from the field) and 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist in just 9 minutes of action.

Needless to say, Martin’s showcasing some impressive offensive firepower, something that the Valkyries will desperately need as an expansion team next summer. While Martin was buried on the stacked Aces depth chart during her rookie season, it’s noteworthy that she was the one player the Valkyries selected from head coach Natalie Nakase’s former team.
