Warriors Legend Says He Isn’t Retiring Any Time Soon

March 14, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Stephen Curry still has a lot of gas in the tank. The greatest shooter of all-time is getting up there in years, but he thinks he has many more games to play. There have been questions about whether he will hang things up after his current contract. In a recent interview with 95.7 The Game, Curry clarified his thoughts on how long he will play, and Warriors fans will be quite happy with his answer.

The Current Curry Contract

Curry is currently on a max contract that is much deserved. He has one more year left on the deal after this one and is owed about $62 million in that final season. That sounds like a lot to pay someone who will be turning 38 years old by the end of that contract, but Curry will likely be worth every penny.

Steph Curry on how many more years he has left: “I know my contract is lined up and I’d like to outplay that, for sure.”

In his interview with 95.7 The Game, Curry said, “I know my contact is lined up, and I’d like to outplay that, for sure.” It sounds like Curry isn’t going to have his farewell tour next season, and he shouldn’t. He is still one of the best players in the league, and he has his eyes on one final accomplishment.

Curry Wants Number Five

For Curry, it’s all about championships. He doesn’t care if he gets the credit or scores all the points; for him and the Warriors, it has always been about winning above everything else. Luckily for Curry, he’s gotten to do plenty of that. Still, Curry wants more.

In Curry’s interview, he said, “Somebody asked me this summer, ‘What are you still playing for?’ [Number five] That’s literally the only thing you’re playing for… I like where we’re at right now. I think we have what it takes to do it. But I’m not fast-forwarding to saying, ‘Oh, we’re a championship team right now’ because we have another level to get to.”

That fifth championship isn’t going to come easily. Right now, it seems like the addition of Jimmy Butler has breathed new life into the Warriors. Butler’s arrival has also helped Curry find a new hunger for winning that didn’t seem as prevalent earlier in the season.

Steph Showing Age is Just a Number

Part of why people were starting to wonder about what would happen after Curry’s contract was over is that he has been showing signs of decline. Besides his five-game 2019-2020 season, Curry’s scoring average is the lowest it’s been in a decade. He is still averaging 24.5 points a game however, which is pretty damn impressive for a 36-year old.

What is even more impressive is Curry’s play over the last ten games. Curry has averaged 29.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds during that span, and with Butler at his side, he has looked like one of the best players in the NBA again.

If Curry can keep up this level of play, the Warriors really could win that fifth championship. If it doesn’t happen this year, Warriors fans shouldn’t worry. It sounds like Curry will be sticking around for a few more years anyway.
