The Golden State Warriors have budged a bit in their negotiations with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga. The Warriors have now offered Kuminga a three-year deal worth $75.2 million, with a team option on the third season. That’s a slight annual increase and a longer deal than the two-year, $45 million contract with a second-year team option that the Warriors had been offering.
Kuminga continues to prefer a fully guaranteed deal, or two-year deal with a player option. The four-year veteran has been willing to take less money to get a player option, as well. Kuminga and his reps proposed a three-year, $88 million deal with a player option on the third year. The Warriors are reluctant to give that much money per season to Kuminga due to concerns with filling out the rest of their roster.
Golden State continues to insist that on any two-year contract with an option, that Kuminga waive his implicit no-trade clause. The combo forward would be eligible for an implicit no-trade clause because he would be playing out the season on a potential one-year contract with Bird rights following it. The same scenario exists if Kuminga were to sign the qualifying offer for the upcoming season.
