Breaking: Stanford Stuns No. 4 Arizona In Shocking Upset

June 25, 2024 by The Spun

Is it March yet, because it’s starting to feel like it in the college hoops world.

The Arizona Cardinals, a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament this season, fell to the unranked Stanford Cardinal 88-79 in Palo Alto on Saturday night.

It’s Arizona’s fourth loss of the season, the other three coming at the hands of the Utah Utes, Washington State Cougars and Oregon Ducks.

The Wildcats are now 22-4 on the season.

“Arizona woke up this morning as a projected No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Stanford woke up 10-14. The Cardinal just beat the Wildcats in Palo Alto. Anarchy? Nope. Just College Basketball,” said Jon Rothstein.

“Stanford takes down No. 4 Arizona. The Wildcats are the highest-ranked team the Cardinal have defeated since Jan. 28, 2007, when they beat No. 3 UCLA (also while unranked),” said ESPN Stats & Info.

“FINAL: Stanford 88, No. 4 Arizona 79. Per @ESPNStatsInfo, it’s the the highest-ranked team the Cardinal have beaten since Jan. 28, 2007, when they beat No. 3 UCLA. Remarkably, it’s also their first home win over Arizona since 2009,” wrote Jeff Borzello.

What a win for the Cardinal.

Arizona, meanwhile, looks to bounce back next Thursday vs. Utah.
