Four-star prospect Cameron Williams updates his recruitment process

May 18, 2025 by Zags Blog

BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ & SAM LANCE

COUNSIL BLUFFS, IA– High school prospects on the rise tend to look up to players who have already carved out a legacy in the NBA. Four-star prospect Cameron Williams, however, has his eyes on the headliner for the 2025 NBA Draft, Cooper Flagg.

“I want to get better, I want to be a better playmaker,” Williams told ZAGSBLOG. “I want to play like Cooper Flagg, you know, how he makes game-winning plays with his playmaking and all that stuff. I want to play like him and just become a better overall player.”

The four-star prospect made several game-winning plays plays at Adidas 3SSB in Iowa on Friday at Saturday. In the first game against Jalen Green Elite, Williams posted 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four blocks while hitting 2-of-3 shots from deep. He followed that up 19-point game on Saturday with two blocks in a narrow win against Indiana Elite.

“I would say right now I’m more like an Evan Mobley,” Williams said. “I’m more of a defensive guy. I block shots. I rebound. I can shoot a little bit, and I create for others.”

As the oldest of six, Williams is looking to lead the way for his siblings who could potentially follow his path towards playing college basketball. Here’s how he broke down his recruitment process thus far:

Arizona: “Their environment, they’re a basketball school, and they are known for putting players in the league and having a winning culture. So it’s really cool. They play inside-out basically. I could see myself playing there for sure. I like it.”

Purdue: “I like how they develop their bigs, bigger players like me. They have history with Zach Edey. Good program, winning program. I think last year all their players, most of their players came back. No one went to the transfer portal so that says a lot about their team.”

Texas: “New coaching staff they reached out, the assistant [Ulric Maligi]. I’m really open, honestly. I’m open to everything. I haven’t really watched Texas play or anything, so I don’t really know how it is. But I know they’re good.”

USC: “They’re good too. They’re still kind of rebuilding, but I could see myself going there and really developing there and becoming a pro. [Eric Musselman]‘s going to help you grow as a player and as a person off the court.”

Stanford: “I kind of watched them last year, but they had that one big dude, Maxime Raynaud. He’s great. I see a lot of similarities in our game, so I feel like that would be a good spot as well.”

Overall, right now the four-star forward is just enjoying the recruitment process. Williams does not have any specific visits scheduled but is open to any potential visits down the road.

“I’m starting to bulk a little bit,” Williams said. “There are coaches still reaching out and all that
stuff. I’m getting better. I feel like overall as a player I’m getting better.”

The four-star is a top 30 prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, per 247Sports. His favorite player is Kevin Durant, and the toughest player he’s ever had to guard is Koa Peat. He’ll be back at St. Mary’s for his senior season next year.
