The Cal Golden Bears fired head coach Mark Fox on Thursday after last night’s Pac-12 Tournament loss to Washington State.
Fox led his team to a wildly-disappointing 3-29 record this past season, marking one of the worst campaigns in Cal basketball history.

Fox spent the last four seasons as the Golden Bears’ head coach, notching a 38-87 record and zero NCAA Tournament appearances. His best campaign in Berkley came in Year 1 when the team went 14-18. The remaining three seasons of his tenure saw at least 20 losses each year.
Fox addressed speculation about his job security after last night’s 52-69 loss to Washington State.
“I don’t pay any attention to it,” he said, per Cal Sports Report, “because we try to deal within our program, within the administration in truth. We try to be very up front and honest with the challenges we have and the things that we have to overcome and endure.
“We understand that there’s an expectation to be successful, and we didn’t do that this year, but most people who are sitting where you’re sitting now [in the media section], are never on the inside. They don’t know the things that we have to deal with that administrators and coaches and players do.
Fox, 54, has five NCAA Tournament appearances through five years with Nevada and nine with Georgia.
