Cal women’s soccer game against Hornets canceled

Coming off of the heels of its first home victory, 1-0, against USF, the Cal women’s soccer team was looking to ride the momentum of success into Thursday, Sept. 9 at Edwards Stadium. Instead, the Bears will have to wait until Sunday, Sept. 12, as their scheduled game against Sacramento State on Thursday at 4 p.m. has been canceled.
Based on orders from UC Berkeley and local health authorities, the Bears will no longer host the Hornets in what was expected to be a favorable matchup for the blue and gold. With an overall record of 3-0-2, Cal currently sits at the No. 5 spot in Pac-12 women’s soccer standings. Meanwhile, the Hornets hold an overall record of 1-3-1 after losing two of their last three games.
Whether the game will be rescheduled to a later date has yet to be determined. Nevertheless, Cal should remain optimistic. The upcoming match against No. 8 Santa Clara on Sunday may be an opportune chance for the Bears to prove that they’re just as competitive as any top 25 team.
