Class of 2026 point guard Rajan Roberts talks recruitment, high school transfer

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C — Class of 2026 three-star point guard Rajan Roberts has garnered interest from a variety of high-level programs this summer after a strong EYBL campaign with Meanstreets. Originally from Chicago, Roberts is entering his senior year at AZ Compass Prep (AZ) after transferring from Prolific Prep (CA). The 6-foot-1 guard is a skilled playmaker and elite competitor that has been improving his jump shot all summer long.

Having recently announced his intentions to transfer to AZ Compass Prep, Roberts is looking to elevate his game as he prepares for the next level, while also playing at the highest possible level in high school.

“I just want to go in there and be a leader and get wins,” Roberts said.

A self-described great playmaker, Roberts averaged 11.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists across nine games this summer. The point guard said he’s trying to improve as an all-around player.

“I just want to get wins and be a leader,” he said. “And my jumpshot, just making sure I’m shooting above 35% and up. I just want to get my jumpshot to where my coach can trust it.”

Roberts, due to his play, has collected offers from programs like Cal, Eastern Illinois, Loyola Chicago, Northern Illinois, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. Bryant also offered with the old coaching staff that moved to VCU, as well as Xavier’s old staff under Sean Miller (now at Texas). Roberts added he has interest from Auburn, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and USC. He’s taken a visit to Loyola Chicago and will be tripping Ole Miss in August.

The point guard provided ZAGSBLOG with an update on the schools most involved in his recruitment:

Virginia Tech: “I love the way they play basketball. They play at a fast pace. They just let their guys go. Coach Chester Frazier, I appreciate him reaching out all the time. He came and watched a couple games. I just appreciate that.”

California: “They’re not really deeply in contact, but I just appreciate them for giving the offer and still coming out to watch a couple of my games.”

Ole Miss: “That’s a great program. I love the SEC. I feel like it’s a guard-show. Everywhere, they let their guards go. Just loving Ole Miss right now. Appreciate Coach [Wes] Flanigan for offering me and keeping in contact with me a lot.”

Xavier: “That’s a big one for me. I like the Big East. Great competition. Looking forward to getting to know more about all these schools.”

Northern Illinois: “He keeps in contact a lot too, coach [Drew] Gladstone. I appreciate him. That’s in my state. That would never be a bad decision if I was to make that.”

Loyola-Chicago: “I’ve been to Loyola. I got that offer too. It was great. The coaches was great. Great experience, just family oriented environment. Everything about it was just great. I like Loyola a lot.”

Roberts is looking at a few things closely for a place to call home.

“Just somebody that’s gonna let me come in and learn from the jump, play as a freshman and have trust in me and confidence in me,” Roberts said. “Just knowing that I can be a good point guard for the team at the next level.”

Roberts comes from a family of basketball skills and knowledge, with his mother having played collegiately at Texas A&M. He is ranked as a three-star recruit and a top-225 player nationally according to 247Sports.

“Rajan is a super talented lead guard,” Meanstreets head coach Jerel McNeal said. “Tough and as competitive as they come! He’s super twitchy and special as a ball handler. He can put pressure on the rim and get paint touches whenever he wants. He’s grown tremendously over the last year in regards to his defense and playmaking ability. Excited to see where he lands. He will be a high level college point guard.”
