Class of 2025 four-star guard Semetri Carr has committed to Cal, he confirmed to ZAGSBLOG on Saturday.
Carr — the 6-foot, 165-pound guard from The Branson School (CA) and the Oakland Soldiers EYBL program — chose Cal over his other finalists Creighton, Colorado, New Mexico and San Francisco.
“I chose Cal because it checked all of my boxes in terms of basketball, education, and location,” Carr told ZAGSBLOG via text. “The basketball program is a top-notch program and aligns with my goals on the court. The academic opportunities and resources at Cal are great and offer the kind of education I’m looking for and I am honored to represent the Bay.”
Carr also had kind words for head coach Mark Madsen.
“I had the opportunity to spend time with coach Madsen and his staff, watching their practices and interactions with the team,” Carr said. “Cal basketball has a competitive culture, where players push each other to excel daily. I’m excited to learn from someone who has made such a significant impact on the game, both on and off the court, and to receive guidance that will help me reach the next level.”
The guard was a key piece to the Oakland Soldiers squad that made it to the Peach Jam championship game this summer. Carr averaged 6.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 22.0 minutes per contest during Peach.
“With so much talent around me, I do the little things that it takes to win,” Carr previously told ZAGSBLOG. “Get to the paint, draw the defense, kick it to my open players. They draw so much attention, so just doing the little things and being there for my teammates, picking them up, energy. Stuff like that is important.”
Carr also describes himself as a knockdown shooter who picks up 94-feet and does everything for his team.
