When the San Francisco 49ers drafted wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, there was no shortage of speculation that he was chosen to replace Brandon Aiyuk in the event of a trade. Well, the 49ers might want to consider giving Aiyuk that extension now due to an injury that Pearsall is dealing with.
According to David Lombardi of The Athletic, the 49ers have placed Pearsall on the non-football injury list, indicating that he got hurt while away from the team’s facilities.
“The 49ers declared rookie WR Ricky Pearsall, their first-round pick, for the non-football injury list (NFI) — per the league wire. That list indicates Pearsall got hurt away the facility (it could’ve occurred during football-related workouts). 49ers’ rookies reported for training camp today,” Lombardi wrote.
Lombardi noted that the extent of the injury is not known, only that the designation means that it occurred away from the team.
“PSA: ‘Non-football injury’ is a bit of a misnomer since it simply means all injuries away from the facility. We don’t have details on Ricky Pearsall’s particular injury that has him declared for NFI but just FYI,” he added.
Pearsall had 159 receptions for 2,420 yards and 14 touchdowns in five seasons split between Arizona State and Florida.
Will Pearsall be recovered in time for the preseason or is he going to miss time this year?
