Most of the first-round picks from the 2021 NFL Draft have signed their rookie contracts, but there are still three players who remain unsigned with training camp about to begin.
NFL insider Albert Breer announced that New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance are the only first-round picks without rookie deals.
“This leaves just three unsigned first-rounders: Jets QB Zach Wilson, 49ers QB Trey Lance and Chargers OT Rashawn Slater,” Breer said in response to Adam Schefter’s report about Greg Newsome signing his rookie deal. “Less than 15 of 259 draft picks overall remain unsigned. So most of the logjams (including the third-round logjam) have been broken. Almost there.”
The reason rookie contracts take a while to be finalized is because certain agents want to work out the language of the deal.

Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick from this year’s draft, has already impressed a lot of coaches and players at camp this offseason. He should have no trouble getting a deal done before the start of the 2021 season.
The same can be said about Lance, who is entering a fantastic situation in San Francisco. Though he may start the season on the bench, he’ll have the chance to sit behind Jimmy Garoppolo and learn how to run Kyle Shanahan’s system.
NFL fans should expect Lance, Slater and Wilson to sign their new deals in the coming weeks.
