The San Francisco 49ers continue to churn the bottom of their roster. On Tuesday morning, the team signed Jaylon Allen, a former UFL edge rusher for the Memphis Showboats.
Allen had 1.5 sacks and 23 tackles this past season for Memphis in the UFL. Allen was an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft, where he signed with the Denver Broncos, before being waived with an injury settlement. He spent his collegiate career with the Memphis Tigers, where he started all 13 games as a senior, and was second team All-AAC in 2023, recording 40 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and two sacks.
Kyle’s update, 11:46 a.m. PT: The 49ers have placed Tarron Jackson on the Injured Reserve, per The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.
Allen wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, but he bench pressed 225 pounds 26 times at Memphis’s Pro Day, had a broad jump of 10 feet and four inches, with a 34” vertical jump.
The 49ers are likely signing Allen either because Yetur Gross-Matos may not return as soon as the team intended, or they need another practice body for Tarron Jackson, who was carted off the field during Sunday’s practice.
