The San Francisco 49ers have already made a contract decision on standout edge rusher Nick Bosa. On Monday, John Lynch announced the team has exercised the fifth-year option on Bosa’s contract, ensuring he’ll play for the the Niners in 2023.
Bosa is still playing on his rookie contract. He’s entering the fourth year of the deal. Given his talent, the 49ers didn’t want to wait long to secure him for at least one additional year.
The 49ers have picked up Bosa’s fifth-year option – which is projected to be worth $17.9 million.

Lynch added Bosa is a “foundational player” for the 49ers. They want to keep him around for the long haul.
“We’re going to do everything we can to keep him part of the organization. He’s a foundational player, just like Deebo,” he said, via Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury.
Bosa has been one of the league’s top defensive ends since entering the league back in 2019. He has 105 tackles and 24.5 sacks in 35 career games. Last year was his best yet. The former Ohio State star had 52 tackles, 15.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss in 17 games.
As long as Bosa’s healthy, he’s one of the most disruptive players in the NFL. The 49ers will build their defense around him in the years to come.
