Guard Aaron Banks left the 49ers preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs after appearing to suffer an injury blocking on a run play. He returned to the team’s locker room and was listed as “questionable” to return with a shoulder injury. With two weeks of preseason play remaining, it would be surprising to see the rookie return.
The 49ers selected Banks in the second round of this year’s NFL draft and expected him to compete to be the team’s starting right guard.
Banks’ first official NFL action came with some highs and lows. He has struggled in pass blocking throughout training camp, and that carried over to Saturday’s matchup. In the first half, Banks consistently struggled against the Kansas City pass rush and was beat handily on a sack of Trey Lance.
He did show flashes of his potential at times, highlighted on his final play when he pancaked a Kansas City defender on a run up the middle.
