The San Francisco 49ers are holding onto a playoff spot in the NFC, but there are plenty of teams that could knock them out.
That makes this weekend’s contest against the Cincinnati Bengals even more important. Unfortunately, it sounds like the 49ers will be without one or even two of the team’s best running backs.
Elijah Mitchell is still working to recover from a concussion. Meanwhile, backup running back Jeff Wilson Jr. is also dealing with an injury that could keep him out of this weekend’s game.
With both of those players ailing, the 49ers added some reinforcements on Wednesday afternoon. According to San Francisco beat writer Matt Maiocco, the 49ers are signing veteran running back Brian Hill.
Source: The #49ers have added veteran RB Brian Hill. He has 209 career rushing attempts for 982 yards (4.7 average) with three touchdowns, mostly with Atlanta. He also has 38 receptions for 313 yards and one touchdown. He’s an option to be available for Sunday’s game.

Hill spent most of his NFL career as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. As Maiocco noted, he’s racked up 982 rushing yards on 209 career attempts for a modest 4.7-yards per carry figure.
He also added 38 receptions for 313 yards and a total of four career touchdowns. It sounds like he could see some snaps when the 49ers take the field this Sunday.
