Mychal Kendricks has a toe injury and is questionable to return.
49ers defensive lineman Maurice Hurst has been ruled out with an ankle injury after leaving the Niners preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Hurst had recorded one tackle before leaving the game in the first half.
The 49ers signed Hurst this offseason after he was released by the Las Vegas Raiders. Drafted by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft, Hurst had been a valuable rotational player under head coach Jon Gruden. Hurst made 14 starts and appeared in 29 games during his two seasons with the Raiders, recording 49 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, 7.5 sacks, and an interception.
While the Niners are particularly deep along their defensive front, Hurst is expected to be one of the primary backups on the interior behind Javon Kinlaw, D.J. Jones, and Arik Armstead. Still in the preseason, Hurst could be ruled out for precautionary reasons, but the team is unlikely to reveal how severe the injury is until Monday.
