What the 49ers are getting:
Williams is a prototypical NFL edge rusher with excellent size and length who played all over the defensive line for the Bulldogs. He’s a strong leader who led by example and did everything the coaches asked of him, including being cross-trained across multiple positions along their defensive line. Williams uses his length to keep blockers at bay before pouncing on unsuspecting ball carriers. He needs to work on his hands and refine his counters off his long-arm and speed-to-power rushes, but Williams has all the makings of a good NFL player, and a good coaching staff should be able to develop him into an impact player quickly.
Strengths
- Legitimate NFL length and size highly coveted by teams
- Disruptor, over 30 percent of tackles have gone for a loss
- Knows how to use his length to stay clean and always reaches for knockouts
- Possesses strong foundation, lower-body strength to set edge and spill runs
- Coaches dream, high leadership off the field and did everything asked of him on it
Weaknesses
- More raw than refined
- Lack of career production, even accounting for playing on a stacked Georgia defense
- Never averaged playing full starter snaps in any of his three collegiate seasons
