The total and spread are down compared to the 49ers-Seahawks odds from 2024
The San Francisco 49ers don’t play a football game for close to another four months from today. We’ll go through the lulls of the offseason before training camp sneaks up on us a couple of months from now.
Until then, we can project. FanDuel Sportsbook has Week 1 odds up for every game. The Niners travel to Seattle to take on Sam Darnold and the new-look Seahawks. The 49ers are slight favorites by 1.5, with the total of the game set at 45.5, slightly juiced to the under, making the prediction for this game 24-22, San Francisco.
In Week 6 last season, the 49ers were 3.5-point road favorites, with the total set at 49. In Week 11, at home, the Niners were favored by six, with a total of 48.5.
The adjustment of two points suggests Sam Darnold will be the same player he was last year, throwing to Justin Jefferson and having Kevin O’Connell call the plays behind a top-end offensive line.
The total dipping by more than a field goal is a little confusing. Is it because Week 1 games are historically lower-scoring divisional matchups, or are oddsmakers telling us these offenses will take a step back, or will the defenses be better in Year 2 under Mike McDonald and Robert Saleh back on the sidelines?
It might take Saleh some time to figure out what he has on defense and the right combinations to play. Offensively, as long as Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams are healthy, the 49ers should be in good hands. The ceiling is lower without Brandon Aiyuk, but there are enough weapons to score three to four times over an 11 or so possession game.
