49ers Pro Bowl Selections Highlight Team-Wide Playoff Push

The San Francisco 49ers depth and star power earned the team six selections to the 2026 Pro Bowl Games, reflecting contributions across the roster fueling another postseason appearance.

49ers Send Six Players to 2026 Pro Bowl

According to ESPN’s official Pro Bowl team breakdown, offensive tackle Trent Williams (12th appearance), fullback Kyle Juszczyk (10th appearance), tight end George Kittle (seventh appearance), and running back Christian McCaffrey (fourth appearance) once again headline the list. Additionally, long snapper Jon Weeks (second appearance) and special teamer Luke Gifford (first appearance) represent a special teams unit that has undergone a dramatic turnaround from a year ago.

Pro Bowl Evolution

Traditionally held the week before the Super Bowl, the Pro Bowl serves as the NFL’s All-Star event. Players competed in the Pro Bowl as a traditional game from its inception in 1951 through 2022. However, recent editions drew criticism as players avoided contact to reduce injury risk.

To make it worth watching, the Pro Bowl Games evolved in 2023. AFC players now face off against NFC players in skills competitions like dodgeball and a 7-on-7 flag football game. This season’s Pro Bowl festivities will take place on February 3, the Tuesday before the Super Bowl.

Offensive Stars Lead the Way

Two superstars have been essential to the 49ers’ success this season. Williams and McCaffrey have been among the best at their positions in the NFL, and more importantly, have stayed healthy after battling injuries last year. Williams’ 12th selection ties him for the second most by an offensive lineman in league history. He has played a major role in opening up holes for McCaffrey to gain 1,179 rushing yards, 890 receiving yards, and 17 total touchdowns.

Juszczyk and Kittle have been critically important components of the 49ers’ offense. Juszczyk, who continues to make history with a record 10 Pro Bowl selections, is not a typical throwback fullback. He is more than just McCaffrey’s lead blocker. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan also uses the versatile player in the passing game. Juszczyk has caught 23 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns this season. The team also uses him as a misdirection piece to create space for teammates.

Kittle remains one of the best tight ends in the NFL. When healthy, he is one of the most difficult tight ends to defend. In only 10 games, he has 52 catches for 599 yards and seven touchdowns. Imagine what’s possible if he could stay healthy.

Defense and Special Teams

Pro Bowl voters did not select any 49ers defenders, reflecting the team’s struggles generating pressure after losing All-Pro Nick Bosa for the season and Fred Warner for most of 2025. Despite these losses, the 49ers’ defense managed to stay competitive, thanks to younger players stepping up.

Notably, the 49ers’ special teams have greatly improved after struggling last year and early this season. Pro Bowl voters rightly selected linebacker Luke Gifford, who has heavily contributed to the team’s punt and kickoff coverage units, and long snapper Jon Weeks for their roles in the unit’s turnaround.

Push Hinges on Health of Key Players

The 49ers’ goal is to reach the Super Bowl at their home stadium, which means that these six players would not have to participate in the Pro Bowl Games. If the 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks in the regular-season finale, they won’t have to leave the Bay Area until/unless eliminated from the playoffs.

To continue winning, they need to get Kittle and Williams healthy, as Kittle did not play against the Chicago Bears, and Williams injured his hamstring on the game’s first play. If those two Pro Bowlers cannot suit up or are not fully healthy, the 49ers may not have enough on offense to overcome a banged-up defense.
