As rookie minicamp gets underway, the rookie jersey numbers have been assigned for the 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers host their rookie mini-camp on Friday. Practice will be open to the media at 1 p.m. PT this afternoon. A select number of rookies will be available to the media beforehand at 11:30 a.m. PT.
With practice comes jersey numbers. As we know, these numbers are not permanent. They could change by training camp or in Year 2 or 3 of these players’ careers. We saw the same with Fred Warner, Deommodore Lenoir, Jimmie Ward, Deebo Samuel, and plenty more.
Here’s a look at the numbers the rookies were initially assigned:
4-Kurtis Rourke
17-Jordan Watkins
20-Upton Stout
29-Jordan James
36-Marques Sigle
45-Nick Martin
50-C.J. West
75-Connor Colby
86-Junior Bergen
98-Mykel Williams
99-Alfred Collins
First-round pick Mykel Williams will wear the same number Javon Hargrave, Arden Key, and Ronald Blair wore. Fans are likely hoping Williams is more like another player who used to don No. 98, Julian Peterson.
Second-rounder Alfred Collins will follow in the footsteps of DeForest Buckner, Javon Kinlaw, and Maliek Collins as he wears No. 99.
C.J. West wore No. 8 in college. That’s one of 12 jersey numbers retired in the organization, so West will wear 50. Upton Stout wore 21 in college. So, the same applies to him.
Stout takes James’s college number, so James gets stuck with Talanoa Hufanga’s old number.
Martin adds a 5 to his college jersey. He wore No. 4 at Oklahoma State, which is currently taken by Jake Moody. Rourke getting that number tells you he either isn’t making the roster or will be stashed on the injured reserve
Poor Sigle. He has an uphill battle with 36.
