Let’s see who gets in and who goes to the practice squad
The San Francisco 49ers have finished their final preseason game of the season and now Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, and the rest of the coaches and front office will make the difficult decisions to trim down the roster from 90 to 53 players.
The deadline to have the roster finalized is 4:00 PM EST, on Tuesday, August 27. Obviously we’ll be seeing a lot of things happening in social media before that time. Many decisions will come this weekend.
The 49ers also need to decide on practice squad players. They are allowed 16 practice squad players. To be placed on the practice squad a player must have a single accrued season. That means rookies are ineligible. The 49ers also have four protected spots on the practice squad. Those spots change weekly, but if they want to keep a player from getting poached for a 53-man roster, they may figure out those protections this weekend.
This post will be updated throughout the weekend by the staff when something hits social media showing a release or someone making the team. There were a lot of good things to see later in Friday’s game but the 49ers can’t keep everyone.
Here we go.
