And then there was one…
According to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the San Francisco 49ers signed their third-round draft pick cornerback Ambry Thomas on Friday morning. The 49ers selected Thomas with their No. 102 overall selection during the 2021 NFL Draft.
Since Thomas’s contract was already slotted, his four-year deal is worth $4,785,850. Thomas’s signing bonus, according to Over The Cap is $840,616 and will have a cap number in 2021 of $870,154.
Jason Verrett figures to start at one of the cornerback positions. It’s assumed that Emmanuel Moseley would start at the other outside cornerback spot, but Thomas figures to give E-man a run for his money. We’ll find out in just over a week if Thomas is a real threat to start.
That leaves Trey Lance as the only draft pick from the Niners ‘21 draft that remains unsigned. San Francisco reports to training camp this coming Tuesday, July 27, so you’d expect a deal to get done before then.
If not, July 31 is when the team takes the field to practice, so as long as Lance is signed before a week from Saturday, then all is well, and we won’t have to worry about this lingering into training camp.
