Outside of the training staff and room, the 49ers were consistently among the best in the NFL in the other categories.

It’s the offseason when the NFLPA releases its team report cards. Remember that actions speak louder than words when you read through what’s said. If an organization is known for attracting any free agent it wants, isn’t shunned by coaches, or takes care of its own, that indicates a successful culture.

That will not stop us from talking about where the San Francisco 49ers rank in this annual tradition. The 49ers ranked eighth overall, scoring tenth or better in the following:

Treatment of Families (10th)
Food/Dining Area (4th)
Nutritionist/Dietician (10th)
Strength Coaches (9th)
Team Travel (8th)
Head coach (10th)

The 49ers training room ranked 21st, while the training staff ranked 25th:

Training Room

Grade/Rank: B-

21st out of 32 teams

84% of 49ers players feel they have enough full-time trainers, ranking them 25 out of 32 teams.

87% of players feel they have enough full-time physical therapists, a rank of 13 out of 32.

81% of players feel they have enough hot tub space, a rank of 17 out of 32.

81% of players feel they have enough cold tub space, a rank of 18 out of 32.

Players mention that the sauna frequently breaks.

Training Staff

Grade/Rank: B-

25th out of 32 teams

83% of 49ers players report that they receive enough one-on-one training treatment, ranking them 24 out of 32 teams.

The players feel that the training staff slightly contributes to their overall success, ranking them 25 of 32.

When you think about how often and how many injuries this team continues to deal with, the complaints about not having enough trainers are concerning. That coincides with the low scores when it comes to the quality and quantity of treatment received.

The 49ers ranked smack dab in the middle when it came to players feeling whether their head coach was receptive to locker room feedback. Players want their voices to be heard or at least acknowledged. It’ll be interesting to see how that ranking changes the longer the players hear the same voice.

Overall, the 49ers organization is in a great place compared to the rest of the NFL. Taking care of your body is critical, and the Niners rank third in their individualized nutrition plan and fourth in their individualized training plan from their strength coach.

Players also feel that CEO Jed York significantly contributes to a positive team culture and that York is extremely committed to building a competitive team. York ranked seventh and sixth in those respective categories.
