The 49ers handed Jauan Jennings a two-year extension last season. Now he wants another new deal ahead of his free agency in 2026.
Jauan Jennings received a two-year extension from the 49ers last year. Now he reportedly wants another new deal.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jennings is seeking another contract from the 49ers or a trade to a new team that will hand him an extension.
Jennings was handed a two-year, $15.39 million deal by the Niners last May in the wake of his impressive performance in a losing cause in Super Bowl 58.
He vindicated the 49ers’ decision with a breakout 2024 season that would have ended with him posting 1,000 yards receiving if not for a bizarre ejection in the season finale with the Arizona Cardinals.
Jennings finished with 975 receiving yards and six touchdowns. An ultra-reliable third-down weapon, 47 of his 77 receptions went for a first down.
The 49ers have made no secret of how highly they think of Jennings, for both his dependability as a receiver and as an extremely committed blocker who sometimes flirts with overaggressiveness in that area of the game.
Due to a base salary of just $1.17 million this season, the 49ers, given the level of cap space they have at their disposal, shouldn’t find it difficult to reach a compromise with Jennings.
The 49ers could probably do without a contract drama this close to training camp, but it’s unlikely to be an issue that drags on. Jennings is not expected to holdout, and the positive relationship he has with the coaching staff and front office should see a resolution reached in the not too distant future.
