The 49ers are hoping Floyd’s production continues in 2024
The San Francisco 49ers signed free agent pass rusher Leonard Floyd with the expectation that he’ll continue to rack up sacks as he’s done for the past four seasons.
Surprisingly, Floyd had more pressures (44) last season with the Buffalo Bills than Javon Hargrave did (39) in his first season as a Niner. The hope is Floyd can keep that production up or do even better, playing alongside Hargrave and opposite Nick Bosa.
One coach on the 49ers staff knows all about Floyd. Brandon Staley has been with Floyd at two stops. Staley spoke about Floyd to the media Wednesday afternoon:
“Leonard’s one of the top players I’ve ever coached. I coached him at two spots. I’ve been able to see his growth and improvement as a player. I felt like last year, he’s played as well as he’s ever played. And that’s saying a lot because he’s played at a high level. He’s been a part of No. 1 defenses wherever he’s been. Chicago, with the Rams, and part of a really good group last year in Buffalo as well. So, very experienced. I think our organization knew a lot about him before. Me coming here, filling in whatever gaps they needed. Leonard’s resume speaks for itself. He’ll be a great fit for this team and our style of play.”
Floyd’s availability will be vital to the team’s success. He’s consistently played starter snaps up until last season. A big reason why the 49ers added Floyd, aside from his production, was his health.
