Star running back Raheem Mostert just announced a crushing new injury update.
Mostert, 29, left the 49ers-Lions game early on with a knee injury. It was later announced he’d miss eight weeks and return for the second half of the season. Unfortunately, it’s going to be much longer until he retakes the field.
Mostert announced on Tuesday afternoon that he will soon undergo season-ending surgery. The decisions was made after he met with multiple doctors.
“Faithful, After consulting with multiple doctors and weighing my options, I will be having season-ending surgery to repair my knee. … I’m gutted. This sucks! This is obviously not what I worked so hard for. I wish more than anything I could be out there on the field with my brothers!!! Thank you for your support in our decisions. I’M FAR FROM DONE!”

This is a crushing blow for one of the NFL’s most explosive running backs. Raheem Mostert was a critical piece of the 49ers’ rushing attack these past few years.
We wish Raheem well in his recovery and can’t wait to see him return to the gridiron next year.
The 49ers, meanwhile, have plenty to consider at the running back position. Rookie Eli Mitchell is a similar player to Mostert. He got most of the action in Mostert’s place on Sunday and made the most of the opportunity with 104 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries.
San Francisco also expects big things out of former Ohio State star Trey Sermon. But it’s worth pointing out he didn’t get a single snap on Sunday. JaMycal Hasty figures to be the 49ers’ backup running back at the moment.
The 49ers play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
