After two seasons as a starter for the San Francisco 49ers, safety Tashaun Gipson has had a devil of a time finding a new team to sign him this offseason.
Unfortunately, that’s probably only going to get harder after today’s suspension announcement.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Gipson has been suspended for six games for a “violation of the performance enhancing substances policy.” It is yet to be announced what substances Gipson might have used to violate said policy.
“Free-agent safety Tashaun Gipson was suspended six games due to a violation of the performance enhancing substances policy,” Schefter wrote.
Gipson has played all but one game for the 49ers over the past two seasons. He’s a 12-year veteran who made the Pro Bowl with the Cleveland Browns back in 2014 after leading the league in interception yards.
Gipson has also enjoyed solid runs with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Chicago Bears prior to joining the 49ers in 2022.
For his career, Gipson has 684 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, 33 interceptions and 68 passes defended.
Will we see Gipson suit up for another team this season, or will the suspension keep teams from signing him before September?
