Former 49ers running back rips into old team in social media post

Raheem Mostert had something to say after a blockbuster trade involving his former team on Monday.

A blockbuster trade hit the news early Monday morning, as the Miami Dolphins moved cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith, and a 2027 seventh-round pick for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

While Ramsey and Smith were dangled in trade talks for much of the offseason, the news came out of left field, with Fitzpatrick heading back to his former team in return.

There were quite a few reactions on social media to the frenzy, including one from former San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert, who played for the Dolphins from 2022 to 2024.

“Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like sh*t. Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!!,” Mostert wrote in an X post in regards to the trade.

A Pro Bowler in 2023, Mostert was released by the Dolphins earlier this offseason after a season where he only rushed for 278 yards and two touchdowns on 3.3 yards per carry. He ultimately signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency on a one-year deal.

Mostert’s tone is much different than the one his agent had earlier this offseason when announcing the running back’s release.

“Looks like my client Raheem Mostert will be playing elsewhere next season,” Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, said back in February in an X post. “Very thankful for his time with the Miami Dolphins, and this gives them a chance to get younger and gives him a chance to pursue a ring elsewhere.”

He had previously spoken out about the Dolphins this offseason, pointing to his lack of touches and a lack of communication about his role in 2024.

“Last year, for me as a player, was probably the lowest point in my career,” Mostert said earlier in the offseason on The Dive Bar podcast. “I had two games where I was supposed to be a key contributor to the offense, and I didn’t get a single handoff. I don’t know why, and I still don’t know why. I don’t even have answers, and I don’t think I’ll ever get those answers.”

“When that’s being stripped away from you in a fashion that you don’t really understand, you don’t really see what’s going on. That kinda deviates your mindset. It deviates from whatever you got going on, and it takes a toll on you mentally.

“You’re like, ‘dude, what the hell? I’ve been battling all year trying to put on, but all of a sudden, I’m not getting an opportunity to.’ It’s being stripped away from me for no reason — I have no answers. That’s the most frustrating thing for the player that I’ve become playing this game since I was seven.”

The Dolphins have moved off several veterans this offseason, with a few contract disputes coming up, including Ramsey’s.

Looking at the trade, Ramsey heading to the Steelers means that he will not reunite with the Los Angeles Rams, who had been rumored to land him previously. So, at least he won’t be playing in the NFC West in 2025.
