The 49ers have reached an agreement with Fred Warner on a three-year, $63 million contract extension that includes $56 million in guaranteed money.
The San Francisco 49ers are three-for-three on extensions this offseason. They reached terms with star Fred Warner on a three-year, $63 million deal that will make him the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL.
Warner will receive $56.7 million guaranteed as part of the deal, keeping him in San Francisco through the 2029 season. That is the highest percentage guaranteed to an inside linebacker among the top deals at the position.
Warner had previously signed a five-year, $95.2 million deal with the franchise back in 2021. He was slated to be in the fourth year of that contract in 2025. Now, he has a new extension, tying him in San Francisco for potentially the duration of his career.
It’s the second time in Warner’s seven-year career that he has landed a contract that makes him the league’s highest-paid linebacker. We’ve been championing Warner since 2020 before it was popular to call him the best in the business.
The linebacker’s deal tops the record previously set by Baltimore Ravens star Roquan Smith, who had signed a five-year, $100 million deal back in 2023. Smith got $60 million in total guarantees and $45 million guaranteed at signing on that contract.
Warner’s extension comes after the 49ers extended quarterback Brock Purdy on a five-year, $265 million deal late last week, keeping their franchise signal-caller in the Bay through the 2030 season. And don’t forget about George Kittle’s four-year deal that earned him $76.4 million. It’s been a busy yet productive 30 days for the 49ers.
It’s notable that the 49ers were able to get all three of the deals done this early in the offseason. Now, all of their priorities are completed prior to the start of organized team activities (OTAs), which begin next week.
