It’s officially game week. Enjoy a day off if you aren’t working on Labor Day. This will be the final day we have off until we return with all of the news, notes, and analysis from the 49ers this week.

Robert Saleh’s coaching staff bringing Kyle Shanahan playbook to Jets

The Jets could be called 49ers East this year.

New head coach Robert Saleh spent four seasons as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator under Kyle Shanahan, and he has brought plenty of things from the Bay Area with him to Florham Park. Nine of his assistant coaches were with San Francisco in the past few years.

That is why it is fair to look at how the 49ers do things and expect the Jets to be run in a similar fashion. We know that offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is bringing the Shanahan offense with him to the Jets. We know that the defense that Saleh used to make the 49ers one of the best in the NFL is now being taught at One Jets Drive.

Digging a little deeper, The Post was given copies of two pages of what you might call the Shanahan Bible, which details his offensive and defensive philosophies. The book is distributed to staff members and goes over various details of his program, but these two pages zero in on philosophy.

ESPN ranks ‘decent’ 49ers roster last in NFC West, identifies obstacle to overcome

“The Niners have a terrific offensive line and a good core of offensive targets led by George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, but it is yet to be seen how much they get out of the unsettled Jimmy Garoppolo/Trey Lance quarterback situation,” wrote Clay.

The team’s strength might be its defense and deep defensive line, which will see the return of pass rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. Both missed most of last season due to injuries. There are secondary concerns, though, and the team lost its defensive coordinator from the past four years.

“The defense has more voids than in years past and coordinator Robert Saleh is gone, but star power remains in the form of Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, Fred Warner, Jason Verrett and Jimmie Ward,” added Clay. “This is a decent roster that will need to overcome a tough division in order to find its way back to the playoffs.”

What the 49ers Defense Will Do to the Lions Offense

Sewell is a highly-talented top 10 pick, but he’s young and he didn’t play last season — he opted out to prepare for the draft. And he’ll have to face four excellent defensive ends.

First, he’ll have to face Arik Armstead, who’s not a dangerous edge rusher, but he’s a violent player who will headbut Sewell and make him work.

Then, after Armstead softens him up, Sewell will have to deal with a rotation of Nick Bosa, Dee Ford and Samson Ebukam. Good luck, Penei.

The Lions surely will game plan ways to help Sewell in his NFL debut. Which means Ryans needs to game plan as manys ways as he can to isolate Sewell. Needs to call five- and six-man pressures that force each offensive lineman to block someone one on one.

Why the 49ers SHOULD utilize a two-quarterback system; Jameis Winston’s potential on the Saints

Now, this two-QB system didn’t just appear out of thin air last Sunday. Shanahan discussed the idea with The MMQB’s Albert Breer back in early August. And in his Friday media availability before San Francisco’s preseason finale, the 41-year-old offensive guru explained why San Francisco continues to tinker with its plan at the game’s most important position.

Although QB timeshares have rarely been utilized in the NFL, the 49ers’ willingness to feature Garoppolo and Lance as co-QB1s could create an offensive juggernaut that’d be an absolute nightmare to defend. I am not trying to engage in hype wars when I make this proclamation, but it is impossible to ignore the headaches that Shanahan could generate with each of his field generals playing a prominent offensive role.

49ers’ Mohamed Sanu gives Trent Sherfield perfect nickname

“From the jump, I called him ‘Textbook Trent,’ because everything he does, he does it textbook,” Sanu told reporters Thursday. “To see how he comes in day in and day out and extra work and attention to detail, it shows in his performance.”

Sherfield put together consistent practices and was effective with both Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback, solidifying his spot on the 49ers’ 53-man roster going into the regular season.
