John Lynch: 49ers ‘making progress’ Brock Purdy contract talks, timeline still unclear
“What I will tell you, I can tell you, is we’re having really good, positive discussions,” Lynch told Simms. “When it gets done, I’m not sure. I hope sooner rather than later, but hope is not a strategy. So, we’re making progress. We’ve had good discussions.”
49ers 53-man roster projection: Huge impact needed from big draft class (paywall)
“Mustapha’s offseason knee surgery increases the odds that Sigle, a fifth-round pick, could serve as a Week 1 starter. His competition could be Pinnock, who started 32 games the past two seasons for the Giants and has ties to defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, his head coach with the Jets as a rookie in 2021. Lynch, a Hall of Fame safety, hit on another fifth-round safety, Talanoa Hufanga, a 2021 pick who was a first-team All-Pro in 2022. Lynch is enthused about Sigle’s speed and tenacity, saying, “I think he’s going to be a really good fit for us.”
49ers’ 2025 NFL Draft haul increases depth at key defensive positions
“Martin plays the game with a similar tenacity as Greenlaw. He is being counted upon to supply the 49ers with an immediate upgrade at a position that was a weakness last season.”
Why Cosell believes 49ers’ seventh-round QB Rourke is good system fit
“You could make the argument that he’s the most refined and nuanced quarterback in the 2025 draft class as far as timing, anticipation, consistently precise ball placement,” NFL Films’ Greg Cosell said of Rourke on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast.
“I thought he showed a strong sense of progression reading. He’s mentally tough, he’s physically tough. He had clean footwork, clean balance. Not a big arm. But you think about the 49ers’ offense, I think I pretty much described their passing game. So it made sense that he would go to a team like that…..“I think his traits fit,” Cosell said. “I said (before the draft) he’d likely profile as a backup. But if he had to start, his ability to have success would be dependent on the offense — a strong, sustaining run game, quick, rhythm, timing passing game, RPO (run-pass option) elements. Play action. All those things that the Niners do. So it kind of made sense.”
