Shanahan shares hopeful updates on Floyd, Gross-Matos injuries
“Shanahan said it was too early to tell if Floyd and Gross-Matos will be available for the 49ers’ Sept. 9 regular-season opener against the New York Jets at Levi’s Stadium.”
49ers WR Ricky Pearsall’s availability for opener uncertain due to shoulder injury (paywall)
“He did it in college,” Shanahan said. “About 50% of the people coming out of college do that. That really wasn’t a problem. He did it in OTAs for the first time with us. And when you do that, it’s tender. And then he redid it here a couple weeks ago (in training camp). And it makes it tender. So you want to give him time to come back from it.”
Pearsall has participated in just six of 19 training-camp practices, missing the first four due to a hamstring injury he suffered in a workout during the 49ers’ summer break. Shanahan was asked if he expected Pearsall to be available for the regular-season opener against the Jets on Sept. 9.
“I hope so,” Shanahan said. “We’ll see how he is this week. I’m hoping he can get back into practice this week. And if he does, that’s a pretty good sign he could be available.”
Shanahan explains what Aiyuk’s presence means for contract situation
“I’d be confident in us being about to pick up where we left off,” Purdy said. “I’ve been throwing to him for two years, and obviously going on three, understanding our plays, our concepts, where he needs to be, where the receiver needs to be. I’d be pretty confident in him coming back and us being on the same page.”
Shanahan reveals extent of Pearsall’s lingering shoulder injury
“Pearsall continues to work out, running and catching passes at the team’s practice facility while undergoing physical therapy to stabilize and strengthen the muscles around the shoulder. He traveled with the team to Las Vegas for the 49ers’ final preseason game but did not suit up.
The 49ers are tentatively scheduled to practice Monday, Wednesday and Thursday before entering into a regular work week in preparation to face the Jets in the Monday night opener.”
Shanahan enjoyed ‘fun’ Hail Mary in 49ers-Raiders preseason finale
“It was pretty cool. That was one of the more fun plays that I’ve seen,” Shanahan told reporters. “It was frustrating to end there in a tie. You never want to end in a tie, but I’m definitely glad that we don’t have to go to overtime in the preseason, so I’d much rather have that.
“But it was real cool. [Offensive tackle Alfredo Gutierrez] took half an hour to get back in, so we were messing with him that he was doing interviews after and stuff, because his dream finally came true. But, he was still exhausted from it all, so guys had fun with him in there. It was a real fun play, but all for nothing.”
