John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan discuss Day 2 of the draft; New 49ers rookies speak to the media
“San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters after Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Additionally, the three players selected on Day 2 spoke to reporters. Here is everything they said.”
5 things to know about 49ers third-round pick LB Nick Martin
“Martin may be a ferocious player on the field, but he appears to be somewhat of a goofball off of it. According to The Oklahoman, Martin had over 10 pairs of animal slippers at Oklahoma State, one of which (a pair of wolf slippers) he wore to Big 12 Media Days in Las Vegas.”
5 things to know about 49ers third-round pick CB Upton Stout
“Stout is a classic overachiever,” Kiper wrote. “He’s only 5-foot-9 and 181 pounds. But he maximizes his talent, and he’s tough to get off the field because he prepares well and has an impressive skill set. Stout allowed 2.4 yards per pass attempt on throws his direction last season, which was sixth in the nation among defensive backs with 200-plus coverage snaps.”
Stout certainly proved himself at Western Kentucky, where he started 29 games in three seasons after transferring in from North Texas and finished with 125 tackles, six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), and 17 passes defensed. He was a first-team All-Conference USA performer in 2024. Stout also returned five punts for 29 yards.”
5 Things To Know About 49ers Second-Round Pick DT Alfred Collins
“He’s a legit specimen,” an NFL personnel director told NFL.com. ”With the right coaching, he could end up taking off and becoming the best interior player in this class.”
“Stout was so animated during his Zoom media call that a reporter jokingly asked him if he played as fast as he talked. Lynch was struck by Stout’s personality during his pre-draft visit and said his post-pick call with Lynch, Shanahan and owner Jed York was particularly memorable.
“Feisty is the way I would describe him, his demeanor,” Lynch said. “He’s got a lot of juice. That was as good a call as we’ve ever had — calling a kid and letting him know. I think he’s still saying, ‘Let’s do it.’”
49ers add beef — and ferocity — to middle of their defense on Day 2 of NFL Draft (paywall)
“Five of the last seven tailbacks the San Francisco 49ers faced in 2024 ran for more than 100 yards and the team gave up 24 rushing touchdowns on the season, tied for the second most in the NFL.
Those dubious statistics seemed to be on the 49ers’ mind on Friday as they focused on bolstering the middle of their defense, beginning with a 332-pound defensive tackle early in the second round and finishing with a 181-pound nickel cornerback late in the third.”
NFL Draft best available players for San Francisco 49ers: Marcus Mbow, Chase Lundt (paywall)
“Farmer was a two-gapping lineman for the Seminoles but still managed four sacks and eight tackles for loss last season. That suggests the power and quickness Kocurek covets for his interior linemen.”
