Pelissero on Brock Purdy-49ers contract talks: ‘They’re not close’
“What I would tell you on Purdy is they’ve been in negotiations, they have been in talks, they continue to move forward,” Pelissero told Eisen. “Purdy is there. He is working out with the team. He chose to be around, even though there’s this ongoing situation involving his contract.
“I would certainly anticipate … This is going to be right there, in the 50s, probably, with Brock Purdy. They’ve made it very clear that they want Brock Purdy to be the long-term quarterback solution in San Francisco.”
Despite the ongoing conversations, Pelissero noted that the two sides are not yet close to an agreement, so fans may need to remain patient.
“They’re not close,” Pelissero added. “Nothing’s imminent, from my understanding here. But certainly this is a deal that I would anticipate that all parties have a vested interest in getting done before we get to training camp.”
George Kittle becomes NFL’s highest-paid TE with new 49ers contract extension (paywall)
“The specifics of Kittle’s contract haven’t been revealed, but the 49ers presumably have structured it to protect themselves with non-guaranteed money in the latter years of the deal, which will end in 2029 when Kittle is 36. In the short term, Kittle’s big deal could help the 49ers financially because it will presumably lower his 2025 salary cap charge.”
49ers finally land a swing tackle, sign D.J. Humphries to one-year contract (paywall)
““I knew I was a tough guy already, but having to go through those things and getting those, ‘Man, you had such a great career. What a run!’ Those texts were really trying for me,” Humphries told Kansas City reporters in November. “It was like, ‘Damn, people are just assuming it’s over because I’m hurt.’ That was probably the toughest part.”
Humphries might be near the end of the road, but his experience and pedigree mean he’s likely an upgrade from the other backup tackle options on the roster.”
49ers add veteran D.J. Humphries to bring needed depth at offensive tackle (paywall)
“Humphries was a first-round pick by the Cardinals in 2015. He’s played most of his career at left tackle and made the Pro Bowl in 2021. His 2022 season was marred by a back injury and he tore his ACL at the end of the 2023 season.”
“His return meant that most of the team’s star players were on hand for the voluntary session, a group that included McCaffrey, Purdy and linebacker Fred Warner. Their attendance is important for Kyle Shanahan, who’s trying to build the type of momentum this spring that was palpably absent a year ago. It’s worth noting that Kittle and the 49ers finalized their deal April 29. His last extension wasn’t ratified until Aug. 13, 2020.”
