After their Week 1 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers are hopeful to sign wide receiver Kendrick Bourne this week. According to reports, the 49ers are looking to salvage their pass-catching arsenal for quarterback Brock Purdy, and a signing of Bourne could come soon. It’s easy to see why the 49ers are hoping to bring back Bourne, especially with tight end George Kittle and pass-catcher Jauan Jennings heading in for an MRI to find out the severity of their injuries. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan did not want to comment, so it doesn’t sound too good, and Bourne is a solid replacement.
Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2017, the former Eastern Washington product requested his release from the New England Patriots a few weeks ago and is hoping to hit a reset button. However, it looks like Bourne is going back in the past and re-joining the 49ers on a second stint. He is receiving interest from plenty of teams like the Washington Commanders, but the wideout opted to wait until Week 1 was over to see who would need him the most. It could be the 49ers in this situation, and a signing might be on the way.
Entering age 30, Bourne isn’t the same receiver he once was, but he still has like four to five more years of high-level production in the league, so these three teams may intervene and steal him this week by offering a better contract.

Potential Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
It shouldn’t be surprising if the Dallas Cowboys go get another wide receiver before the trade deadline this season. It’s now or never for the organization despite trading away Micah Parsons, signaling the team might be in a rebuild. However, they got George Pickens for a reason, and that is to help quarterback Dak Prescott lead this offense in the right direction. It hasn’t looked the brightest in the past matchup against the Eagles, as the quarterback barely targeted the pass-catcher.
The same can be said about Jalen Tolbert, who is in his final year of his contract. After losing Jonathan Mingo for a few games, Dallas should at least get a low-stakes receiver like Bourne a part of their lineup to battle it out for the WR3 starting role with Tolbert.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers made a statement against the Kansas City Chiefs, but they can’t get complacent. Wide receiver Quentin Johnston finally showed some signs of life, but he still has his moments of inaccuracy. Ladd McConkey and veteran Keenan Allen are still arguably the best pass-catchers in this unit. Bourne could be an efficient upgrade over Jalen Reagor and a mentor for KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Tre Harris.
Kansas City Chiefs
However, the Chiefs are in dire need of a wide receiver. The expectation is that second-year receiver Xavier Worthy will miss some time with a dislocated shoulder, so it shouldn’t be surprising if the Chiefs try to steal Bourne away from the 49ers. Between Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, these are their best consistent options, but even then, they should still chase after another ball catcher. Bourne could fill the hole in the aerial attack while Tyquan Thornton and Nikko Remigio continue to learn and develop.
