Spencer Burford was a limited participant. If he can’t go, it’ll be Jon Feliciano at right guard again
The 49ers returned to practice Wednesday afternoon, but a few notable players sat out.
Did not participate:
DT Arik Armstead (foot)
RB Jordan Mason (hamstring)
WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib)
Right guard Spencer Burford, who missed last week’s game with a knee injury, was a limited participant. Trent Williams had his usual rest day on Wednesday.
Here’s head coach Kyle Shanahan’s response to Armstead’s injury and if it’s similar to the same one Arik dealt with last year: “I’m not sure, exactly. I know it’s his foot. I’m not sure how similar it is.”

As far as preparing for the Eagles, Shanahan isn’t looking back at the game plan from last year:
“You throw it out and start from scratch. I mean, if it’s early in the year, but when you have this much tape, you don’t like to watch what they were into last year. I think we’re just both different teams, different styles. You evolve all the time and you evolve each week. I think a lot of that stuff can, in my history, it hurts you more than it helps.”
Ambry Thomas is at cornerback. Ji’Ayir Brown is starting at safety. Chase Young and Javon Hargrave are a part of your defensive line. Brandon Aiyuk is a better player than he was a season ago. Colton McKivitz is at right tackle. If Burford can’t go, Jon Feliciano will get the nod at right guard.
The 49ers are a different team than a year ago, and the quarterback is significantly better and more comfortable. I’m sure you can do the same with the Eagles roster. Using a similar game plan makes little sense.
