Azeez Al-Shaair will miss about two weeks
Deebo Samuel sat out of Tuesday’s practice with soreness to his groin. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said this was a precautionary measure. However, Samuel was walking after practice without any sort of limp and joking with Fred Warner, so I wouldn’t read too much into Samuel’s perceived injury.
Monday’s practice came to a halt for a few minutes after linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair went down with what looked to be a serious injury. On Tuesday, the team received good news as Shanahan said Al-Shaair would miss a few weeks with a knee sprain. However, they do not fear there is any long-term damage.
Cornerbacks Dontae Johnson and Tim Harris sat out of practice. The team shuffled bodies at cornerback opposite Jason Verrett as Emmanuel Moseley remains on the reserve/COVID list. Johnson is day-to-day, while Harris Jr. is out for a few weeks.
Nick Bosa and his eight-pack continue to run on the sidelines during team drills. However, today was a nice surprise as Jalen Hurd and Dee Ford both participated in team drills.
Shanahan said after practice that Ford “looks like the Dee Ford I remember.” Ford beat Mike McGlinchey for a would-be sack and had a few other plays where he was in the backfield. He looks fresh.
Hurd was eased in, as he worked mostly on the backside of plays, but seeing him in full pads doing contact drills is a great start. Some of the media joked that Hurd is on the “midseason plan.” That’s how slow the team is taking it with him. Take your time.
Tuesday was the first day of pads, and there were no severe injuries or even minor ones, from what I could tell, making it a successful practice.
