Travis Benjamin appears to have been cleared from the concussion protocol.
The good news is San Francisco 49ers‘ first-round pick Trey Lance no longer has a splint on his throwing hand (finger). The bad news is that during Monday’s practice, according to the beat writers who were on hand, Lance was not taking snaps or throwing passes.
If Lance isn’t throwing by Tuesday or Wednesday, it’s difficult to imagine him being involved in the game plan. That would also signal Nate Sudfeld getting elevated from the practice squad. We’ll keep an eye on Lance as the week goes on.
Travis Benjamin no longer needed a blue non-contact jersey. He practiced on Monday, which means he’s likely out of the concussion protocol. I could see Benjamin being elevated as well and serve as the team’s punt returner alongside Brandon Aiyuk.
Speaking of Aiyuk, he returned to practice after missing last week (ten days, technically) with a hamstring strain. That’s good news. Remember, Aiyuk suffered the same injury during the same time a year ago which forced him to miss Week 1.
Dre Greenlaw returned to practice as well.
Emmanuel Moseley recently dealt with a hamstring injury, but he has returned to practice since then. Moseley sat out again on Monday, though he was running along the side.
Could Moseley be banged up and that’s why the team signed Josh Norman? Kyle Shanahan won’t speak to the media until Wednesday. We’ll have a better idea about Moseley’s status until then.
Since the media can only watch practice until team drills, there’s no way for anybody to know who is taking reps in Moseley’s place, whether it be Demmodore Lenoir or Norman.
Defensive tackle Kevin Givens did not practice with a groin injury. Nick Bosa and Dee Ford practiced, as did second-rounder Aaron Banks.
