After an ACL injury prematurely brought his successful 2023 to a close, the New England Patriots signed Bourne to a three-year, $19.5 million contract. Unfortunately, he couldn’t justify this investment, as he spent most of the year working his way back from the injury. While he played in 12 games and made nine starts, he finished the season with just 28 receptions for 305 yards and one touchdown. After battling for a roster spot throughout the offseason, Bourne requested his release shortly following the 53-man roster cutdown deadline.
Kendrick Bourne originally joined the league as an undrafted free agent following the 2017 NFL Draft. Signing with the San Francisco 49ers, the Eastern Washington product spent the first three years of his career primarily playing a depth role. He broke out in 2020, finishing the season with 49 receptions for 667 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games.
The New England Patriots rewarded him for this strong play, as Bill Belichick’s squad signed Kendrick Bourne to a contract the following offseason. He was fantastic for his new team early on, finishing the 2021 season with 55 receptions for 800 yards and five touchdowns while helping the team earn a Wild Card spot. Unfortunately, his production dipped in 2022, as de facto offensive coordinator Matt Patricia struggled to incorporate Bourne into the offense In total, he finished the year with just 35 receptions for 434 yards and one touchdown.
Since signing his rookie contract, Kendrick Bourne has recorded 292 receptions for 3,714 yards and 22 touchdowns on 429 targets.
