Jauan Jennings left Sunday’s practice with a calf injury
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn’t seem to think second-year players Renardo Green and Jacob Cowing will miss more than a few weeks.
When Shanahan was asked about Green and Cowing’s return, Shanahan didn’t go into specifics about their injury, saying, “Yeah, they both have hamstrings.” The good news is that both should be back before the second week of the preseason.
Shanahan said, “Hopefully, around Raiders week we’ll get them back.” The 49ers travel to face the Las Vegas Raiders on August 16. So, presumably, Cowing and Green will return early that week and be able to partake in joint practices.
Ricky Pearsall returned to practice on Sunday, but he didn’t do much, as expected. Shanahan said, “It was nice. Yeah, his rep count was really low. I think he got like eight reps today, but we’ll see how he did with recovery and stuff. But I didn’t hear any complaints, and good first day back.”
Defensive lineman Tarron Jackson was carted off the field on a stretcher. Shanahan said that Jackson was conscious and communicating with the team and could feel all of his extremities. Jackson is being taken to Stanford for further testing. Shanahan called it “real scary stuff,” and he’s hopeful the 49ers can get some good news about Jackson’s neck on Monday.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings had a calf injury, while Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey, and Trent Williams all had the day off. Shanahan didn’t know the extent of Jennings’s calf injury other than it was the same injury Jauan had been dealing with back in OTAs.
The next time we talk about Jennings could be about a contract extension, and we may not have to wait long to do so.
