The San Francisco 49ers are taking a flier on a former first-round pick.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers reached an agreement on a one-year deal with former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Clelin Ferrell.
Ferrell was picked fourth overall by the Raiders in 2019 but has yet to live up to the hype. His best season (so far) was in 2019 when he played in 15 games and finished with 38 total tackles (24 solo), 4.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and five passes defended.
In 2022, those numbers went down a little bit when he finished with 26 total tackles, two sacks, and two passes defended.
Even though his numbers aren’t what some pundits have expected out of him, the NFL community is still intrigued by this signing.
“Defensive linemen come to the Niners, play well and come up in free agency. Just like starting pitchers do with the Giants,” another tweet read.
Can Ferrell turn his game around with a new team?
