The Carolina Panthers suffered some notable injuries in Thursday’s win over the Houston Texans. Their biggest injury was to rookie cornerback Jaycee Horn, and the team is reportedly reaching out to a potential replacement of Pro Bowl caliber.
According to NFL insider Dov Kleiman, the Panthers have reached out to five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman. No offer has been made yet, but they are reportedly going to extend him one “in the coming days.”
Horn was the Panthers’ No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and looked great through the first three games. He started each of those games, recording five tackles, one pass defended and one interception. Horn is now expected to miss several months due to his injury.
But the Panthers may have some competition in their alleged pursuit of Sherman. Kleiman also noted that “an AFC contending team” have also contacted Sherman about signing him.
In addition to the #Panthers, an AFC contending team have also contacted Richard Sherman about signing the All-Pro, per source.
Overall, 5 teams are in on Sherman, who is waiting for the best offer before making his decision.

Between 2012 and 2016, Richard Sherman ranked among the most dominant cornerbacks in the NFL. During that span with the Seattle Seahawks, he made four Pro Bowls and was a three-time First-Team All-Pro selection.
But after an injury-shortened 2017, Sherman signed with the San Francisco 49ers, and helped them reach the Super Bowl in 2019 after a Pro Bowl bounceback year.
Sherman doesn’t have an NFL team to call his own at the moment. But with injuries mounting across the league at cornerback, it’s only a matter of time before he returns.
Will the Carolina Panthers be the team to sign Richard Sherman?
