The 49ers backfield is in line to get some help against Indianapolis on Sunday night. Running back JaMycal Hasty, who had his practice window opened prior to Week 7, is expected to be activated off injured reserve in time to suit up against the Colts.
Hasty has been out since suffering an ankle injury late in Week 2. He went on IR before Week 3 and missed the required three games before getting his return designation. A week of practice was all Hasty needed to prove his readiness.
“I expect him to be full go,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “He had a real good week, which you never know when they’re coming back from a high ankle. But he looked good Monday and continued all the way to today. So, no concerns.”
The 49ers will have to officially activate Hasty off IR before he can play, so there’ll be a roster move required ahead of Sunday. He’ll likely work in as the third-down back with Elijah Mitchell and Trey Sermon also sharing backfield duties.
Hasty joined San Francisco as an undrafted rookie from Baylor last season. He ran for 148 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries. This season he had just six attempts, but he turned them into 41 yards and a touchdown.
