The wait is over. Here is a breakdown and look at the Niners schedule for this upcoming season
We’ve spent the better part of 48 hours perusing the internet to see if we could find leaks about the San Francisco 49ers schedule for this upcoming season. The wait is over. Here are the 49ers opponents for 2024.
49ers 2024 schedule
Week 1, September 9, 5:20 p.m. PT — vs. New York Jets — Monday Night Football
The 49ers will kick off the season in primetime as they host Aaron Rodgers and a vaunted New York Jets team that’s projected to win as many games as any other in the NFL.
Week 2, September 15, 10:00 a.m. PT, — @ Minnesota Vikings
It’ll be a quick turnaround for the Niners as they play on a short week. The good news is it’s early in the season. The better news is that this could come against Sam Darnold if rookie J.J. McCarthy does not win the job out of training camp.
Week 3, September 22, 1:25 p.m. PT — @ Los Angeles Rams
The early season games in Los Angeles have been consistent. Again, this is a team you want to catch early in the season as we know Sean McVay is one of the best coaches in the NFL. So, two road games against potential NFC playoff teams.
Week 4, September 29, 1:05 p.m. PT — vs. New England Patriots
While there were two road games, only one of them caused the Niners to leave the Pacific time zone. New England is sure to have a superstar quarterback and perhaps even a head coach, but the likelihood of this being Jacoby Brissett instead of Drake Maye is high. This should be a win.
Week 5, October 6, 1:06 p.m. PT — vs. Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals had a strong draft, and the return of Kyler Murray should only make them a more formidable opponent in 2024. It’s a divisional game, so there’s no guarantee, and Arizona plays San Francisco tightly, but another game that keeps the Niners
Week 6, October 10, 2024, 5:15 p.m. PT — @ Seattle Seahawks — Thursday Night Football
The 49ers playing a primetime game in Seattle on a Thursday has become somewhat of a ritual. The Seahawks could still be figuring out their identity as a team as they turn the page from the Pete Carroll era.
Week 7, October 20, 2024, Sunday, 1:25 p.m PT — vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The 49ers will have ten days to prepare for the only team in the NFL that has their number. This is the football gods doing everything in their power to give the Niners the advantage. Will 2024 be the season the 49ers finally beat Patrick Mahomes?
Week 8, October 27, Sunday, 5:20 p.m. PT — vs. Dallas Cowboys — Sunday Night Football
The NFL loves to put the Cowboys in primetime games against the 49ers. Last year, the Niners made a statement and played one of their most complete games of the season under the lights. They seem to get the best of Dak Prescott every time.
Week 9 — Bye Week
The midpoint of the season for the 49ers comes at a perfect time. They get the opportunity to refresh their batteries after three difficult games.
Week 10, November 10, 10:00 a.m. PT — @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Like last season, the 49ers will have their bye week and travel to Florida. Hopefully, this trip to the east coast works out just as well as last season, when the Niners thumped the Jacksonville Jaguars and went on a run in the second half before eventually making the Super Bowl.
Week 11, November 17, 1:05 p.m. PT — vs. Seahawks
The Seahawks’ games are spread out this time around. I think Seattle takes a step back in Mike MacDonald’s first season. Still, we know these games will always be competitive, and there’s no reason to think that’ll be different in 2024, barring a backup quarterback playing.
Week 12, November 24, 1.25 p.m. PT — @ Green Bay Packers
The 49ers begin a road trip with a classic matchup against the Green Bay Packers, only they’ll be facing Jordan Love rather than Aaron Rodgers this time around. The two teams met in last year’s divisional round at Levi’s Stadium last season. Now, it’ll be the other way around, as the 49ers will travel to Lambeau Field in the winter.
Week 13, December 1, 5:20 p.m. PT — @ Buffalo Bills (SNF)
San Francisco has a tough two-week stretch with road games against the Packers and the Bills consecutively here, with the latter coming on prime time. Coming off their bye week, this will be a crucial stretch for the 49ers, who have normally been a better second-half team than a first-half team over the past few seasons.
Week 14, December 8, 1:25 p.m. PT — vs. Chicago Bears
Caleb Williams and the Bears will travel to the Bay Area in the second half of the season here in Week 14. At this stage, the 49ers, as well as the NFL as a whole, should know what kind of player Williams is and what kind of team the Bears are in 2024. That narrative could be significant, as the 49ers are coming off two straight road games against playoff-caliber teams.
Week 15, December 12, 5:15 p.m. PT — vs. Rams (TNF)
The 49ers get a primetime matchup at home against the Rams late in the season, which will likely be a key factor in the divisional race. San Francisco has dominated Los Angeles in this competition during the regular season over the past few years, but this matchup should be one to watch, nonetheless.
Week 16, December 22, 1:25 p.m. PT — @ Miami Dolphins
San Francisco gets extra rest coming off a Thursday night game, but they’ll face another strong opponent, the Miami Dolphins, on the road, marking an intriguing matchup between Kyle Shanahan and Mike McDaniel. This one could have serious playoff implications for both sides.
Week 17, December 30, 5:15 p.m. PT — vs. Detroit Lions (MNF)
The 49ers have yet another tough matchup near the end of their season, as they’ll face off against the Lions in a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship. Extending key players such as quarterback Jared Goff, offensive tackle Penei Sewell, and wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Lions will be one of the top contenders alongside San Francisco in the NFC in 2024.
Week 18, TBD, @ Cardinals
As always, the 49ers end their season with a divisional game, as they’ll face the Cardinals in Week 18 for the second time in three seasons. Arizona is likely a rebuilding team in 2024, so this game could be a good matchup for the 49ers, should they need a victory heading into Week 18 for favorable playoff seeding. Of course, that’s granted they make it there.
