Let’s make things a little more interesting
If you were looking to make Sunday’s game a little more interesting, Michelle Magdziuk and I packed today’s Gold Digger’s podcast with tons of gambling and fantasy advice. If you don’t know, Michelle is a researcher for the NFL Network and the Director of Content for Ball Blast Football. Here are three of the best bets you can make in the 49ers game this week.
Deebo Samuel over 70.5 receiving yards
There is no doubt that Samuel has emerged as the 49ers’ number one wide receiver. He’s got 12 more targets than anyone else on the team and 22 more targets than any other wide receiver. Considering the fact that George Kittle is likely going to miss the game, even more, passes are going to go Samuel’s way. Plus, he’s killed the Seahawks in the two games he’s played against them, catching at least five passes and 100+ yards both times. Combine that with Seattle’s trouble defending screen passes and horrible secondary in general, and this should easily hit the over.
Jimmy Garoppolo longest completion over 35.5 yards
It feels like a now-or-never week from Jimmy Garoppolo. I’ve never seen a quarterback who threw the go-ahead touchdown pass with under a minute to play in a game receive so much criticism the following week – and it was deserved. Garoppolo himself has gotten questions about challenging defenses down the field this year, and surely the 49ers are seeing the lack of respect that teams have for his deep ball. I think Kyle Shanahan is going to dig into his back of tricks this week and dig up something to shut everybody up.
Trey Lance +300 to score a touchdown
The 49ers have scored touchdowns on every single red-zone possession they’ve had so far this year, and Trey Lance is no small part of that. Even in limited action, the threat he poses has helped lead to a touchdown in the air, a touchdown on the ground, and a pass interference penalty during a bootleg that put the ball on the one-yard line.
Last week, the 49ers inserted Lance into two red-zone possessions and may have used him at the end of the game if Kyle Juszczyk didn’t break two tackles and score on first down against Green Bay. In light of his success there, Trey is likely to see more and more action in that situation.
